  • Flip 2009 Ident/Sting brief

    Purpose of the ident

    To precede screenings and compilations and to underscore the values and identity of the festival

    Brief

    We are looking for something that is well conceived, nicely designed and executed and must include the following elements/theme:

    • Should promote and celebrate the idea of animation at the same time not exclude associated media and audiences.

    • Should include the festival name (in part, i.e. Flip, or whole, as below) using Trebuchet MS font

    Flip Animation Festival

    • End with festival dates: 5, 6 & 7 November 2009 as a separate image

    • Should reflect the festival’s values (see below)

    • Should include the designated artwork. However, you are free to add new elements as long as they fit the design and values of the brand artwork. This would need to be discussed with the festival team

    About the festival

    The festival began in 2004; it started as a regional event quickly becoming international in scope. In 2008 we received 260 film submissions from over 26 countries and audience attendance has grown by 25% year on year since 2004.

    The festival values include:

    • Accessibility
    • Diversity
    • Contemporary
    • Independence
    • Non-corporate

    Purpose of the festival

    Flip exists to increase the enjoyment and appreciation of animation; to promote the cultural and economic benefits of animation at a regional and national level; to provide a progressive animation route which will offer access, learning and development opportunities for every stage of the career cycle; to develop and raise the profile of the animation sector in the region; to attract animators and audiences to the region; to showcase the best of regional, national and international animation; to create a centre of animation excellence in Wolverhampton and the West Midlands.

    Deliverables

    5 -15 second animated sting/ident

    Sound and/or music

    Music clearance documents if applicable

    Make sure the images are within video safe boundaries

    Formats: uncompressed QuickTime or miniDV (no DVD)

    • Should be adaptable to a postcard flyer format and web banner

    • Should include the festival name and date (as below)

    Process

    We request three intital ideas for artwork. These can be very rough. We will then select one idea to develop further. This will be followed by approximately 3 draft versions where the concept and execution is fine tuned. These draft versions will be accompanied by meetings between the artist and festival marketing team to help steer the process towards a mutually agreed design.

    Approx timescale

    This is negotiable, but the deadline for final work is 11 June.
